For the first time, Melbourne will be host to the inter-state battle of KVN – Клуб Весёлых и
Находчивых – Club of the Funny and Innovative. It will be held on Saturday 10th of December
at 19:00 in the centre of our vibrant city at BMW Edge, Federation Square.
Melbourne’s “VVERH NOGAMI” will be competing against Sydney’s “Shnurki”. For the
second time this year, the two teams will be locking horns, in a grueling battle which is sure to
make any audience laugh. The Sydney team is anxious to prove their worth after losing by only
0.1 points earlier this year, however we all know which is the better of our two cities!
The battle will be hosted by the well known Melbourne theatrical figure – Dmitry Pronin, bound
to keep the teams on their toes. The theme of the battle is ‘New Year’, in anticipation of the
festive season. To keep to the true humour of the event it will be held in Russian, if you have
difficulty understanding… bring a translator.

VVERH NOGAMI (Melbourne)
The team was formed in 2009 in Melbourne and its achievements include successful
performances at the Intercontinental KVN Festival in London in October 2011 as the official
Australian KVN team. VVERH NOGAMI delighted London audiences with their enthusiasm,
energy and dynamics. VVERH NOGAMI also participated in “Big KVN” on Russian
television “Channel One Russia” with their video question to famous KVN teams of Special
KVN Project.

Shnurki (Sydney)
A young but very dynamic comedy team from Sydney. It was formed in 2011 to play against
the Melbourne team. Members of “Shnurki” are involved in theatrical activities and participate
in humour project “Comedy Club Sydney”.
Web site: http://vkontakte.ru/shnurkikvn
The battle will be judged, by an expert panel of industry professionals, community leaders, and
politicians.

The KVN battle, has been organised by the Russian Youth Council of Australia (RYCA -
Melbourne), in conjunction with the Russian Representative Council of Victoria (RERC ), with
the help of our sponsors. Profits will go towards the Russian Youth Festival in Melbourne,
February, 2012.
Ticket price: $30

Bell Shakespeare presents

Julius Caesar

By William Shakespeare
Directed by Peter Evans

with Alex Menglet and Kate Mulvany
To see the future one must only look to the past. Like many who came before him, and after him, Julius Caesar had the support of the people but the loathing of the players.

They conspired. They persuaded. They whispered it was for the good of the country. All they needed to succeed was Brutus. Poor patriotic Brutus. He was like a son to Caesar and a poster boy for the republic. But not even a front-man of such unimpeachable integrity could avert the total and utter disaster their daggers set in motion.

Peter Evans, Bell Shakespeare’s new Associate Artistic Director, takes this momentous piece of Roman history and transports it to the corridors of backroom politics. This time, when Caesar gets the axe, it’s the media who roar like an angry mob.

This sharp political drama puts friendship to the test and reveals a stark contrast between our intentions and our actions. With Alex Menglet as Caesar and Kate Mulvany as the conniving Cassius, we go behind the scenes as yet another leader is forced from office.

“I find this story constantly relevant. We witness the original pre-emptive strike and the irony of the ‘honourable assassination’ with all the carnage that a power vacuum creates. Julius Caesar is a play that is never out of date and even today feels relentlessly modern.” Peter Evans, Director

Returning to Australia in 2011… Imperial Russian Ballet Company’s “Festival of Russian Ballet”.

The Festival of Russian Ballet features a diverse and stunning programme in three awe-inspiring acts.

Act One – Don Quixote
Don Quixote was first performed in Moscow’s Bolshoi Theatre in 1869. Since then it has been performed all over the world by Russian and International companies.

Former Bolshoi soloist and head of the Imperial Russian Ballet Company, Gediminas Taranda, has taken the four acts of the original ballet with its gradual evolution and transformed it into one impetuous act.

Act Two – Bolero
Bolero is a striking and dramatic ballet. Ravel was inspired to create this masterpiece after visiting a large industrial factory. There he noticed the slow regular movement of the assembly lines and the crash of machine and materials. Bolero is regarded as one of the world’s music masterpieces.

Act Three – Highlights from the world’s great ballets including Giselle, Carmen, The Dying Swan and Le Corsaire. Also in Act Three, Gopak and Ne Me Quittes Pas, Can Can Surprise

The Imperial Russian Ballet Company have performed this three-hour ballet extravaganza all around the world, thrilling audiences and impressing critics. Richard Mays writing in The Evening Standard wrote:

Ballet virtuosity stuns audience.

AN ASTOUNDING and exhilarating three-hour programme brought most ballet fans to their feet last night.

Perhaps the few who remained seated were simply stunned by excess, as this touring ballet treasure trove heaped pleasure upon delight, capping virtuosity with even more outstanding steps, leaps and turns.

Duration: 2 Hours 40 Minutes
Venue: Theatre
Time: 7.30pm 7-9th of October

At the Russian Ethnic Representative Council (RERC), we are constantly seeking to improve the way we do things and enhance the care we provide. We are also committed to ensuring that our clients are as
actively involved in their own care as possible. That’s why we support and have introduced the Active Service Model.

A Victorian Department of Health initiative, the Active Service Model (ASM) emphasizes proactive and/or preventative measures that have the potential to reduce older people’s dependency on healthcare, or slow
their decline, even in the presence of substantial levels of disability as a result of chronic illness.

The ASM is designed to help clients to do as much for themselves as possible, thus reducing their reliance on healthcare providers. The key elements of the Active Service Models are:

To maintain and promote a person’s ability to live as independently and autonomously as possible

A holistic person and family-centred approach to care that promotes wellness and participation in goal setting and decisions about care.

Timely and flexible services that respond to the person’s goal and maximize their independence.

Collaborative relationships between providers, for the benefit ofpeople using services.

The Active Service Model is a response to the forecast that a high proportion of the growing ageing population will have chronic conditions that result in significant levels of disability in the last
10-15 years of life. This will inevitably lead to increasing demand for community-based services.

The success of the Active Service Model depends on organizations, including RERC, recognizing that client independence will be achieved by the way staff and volunteers relate to clients; their expectations
of clients; and their capacity to engage clients.

It requires a well supported, skilled and adaptive workforce, who support the philosophy of working with people rather than simply caring of them.

Its success is also dependent on service providers with complementary skills working together for the benefit of clients, so that care is designed around the needs of individuals. The Active Service Model can
build on the strengths and initiatives but it may also require the adoption of new tools, techniques, processes, procedures and partnerships to achieve this.

As such, RERC is progressively introducing methods of service delivery that promote an overall wellness or ‘active service’ approach. Change will be incremental and will require building on and improving
existing practices as well as introducing any new practices in a timely and manageable way.
